The Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities serves as the College’s principal officer for the direction, planning and administration of the day-to-day operation of Buildings and Grounds, Campus Planning and Facilities and Property Management. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities, the Campus Planning and Facilities Director oversees short- and long-range planning, capital construction, in-house renovations, budget controls, staff management and basic operations. In the absence of the Assistant Vice President, serves as the College’s principal officer for the direction, planning, and administration of the day-to-day operation of Buildings & Grounds, Campus Planning and Facilities, and Property Management.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and manage major projects, develops project objectives with senior administration, and establishes priorities on both capital and in-house projects.

  • Oversee the long-range physical planning for academic departments needs and participate in the planning of new academic department facilities.

  • Represent the College and act in the place of senior executives in matters related to space planning and capital projects.

  • Communicate with the college community regarding the status of projects and any interruptions in day-to-day activities.

  • Prepare College requests to the University, legislators, and donors for annual and long-range capital projects.

  • Coordinate with the University’s Office of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and the College’s Facilities and Buildings & Grounds Departments.

  • Represent the College at construction project meetings.

  • Review construction plans and architectural drawings to ensure they accurately reflect the requirements specified.

  • Manage staff responsible for planning moves, creating CADD drawings for space reconfiguration and furniture layouts.

  • Manage campus renovation and rehabilitation projects in collaboration with Buildings and Grounds superintendents and/or supervisors.

  • Plan and oversee renovation and relocation of offices as required by campus needs.

  • Provide direction to staff by applying specialized and technical knowledge in the execution of activities related to planning and construction projects.

  • Supervise the Chief Administrative Superintendent as well as Buildings and Grounds staff.

  • Mentor, coach, and train staff as needed.

  • Work closely with other campus departments on coordination of both in-house and capital projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of facilities, construction management, or other relevant experience required. Bachelor’s degree in facility management, architecture, engineering, or related field preferred. Progressively responsible leadership experience and successful track record in Construction Management of large or complex projects in institutions of higher education. Experience working in a unionized and public sector environment preferred. Must have a strong ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines. A strong customer service orientation and attention to details are essential along with excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to take the initiative to make decisions, resolve problems and work effectively with all levels of staff and constituents, and foster a cooperative/collaborative work environment. Familiarity with the Dormitory Authority State of New York and City University of New York capital projects procedures and funding preferred.

The ability to communicate in writing is an important job-related competency. All candidates will draft a writing sample as part of the interview process to demonstrate their ability to write memos and letters that are grammatically correct and express information clearly.
