POSITION DETAILS

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college of over 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. Providing academic advising and planning services to a diverse student population, the Academic Advisor will duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting students with clarifying values and goals; counseling students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures

  • Offering academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process

  • Providing students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services

  • Monitoring and evaluating students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits

  • Performing advisement audits for TAP eligibility and Title IV

  • Establishing and maintaining student files, databases and records; preparing activity reports and analyses

  • May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups

  • Serving as liaison to academic departments as directed by Director

  • Pre-health advisor to undergraduate students who are interested in allied health majors or pursuing a career in a health related field

  • Performing related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Work experience in a higher education environment

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed

  • Knowledge of CUNY software including but not limited to: CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, AS400, and UAPC

  • Experience with MS Office Products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Detail oriented and ability to multitask and meet deadlines

  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player; must be able to work closely with students of varied backgrounds and show patience and prudence in these interactions

  • Experience in a career advisement, or health related profession preferred
