POSITION DETAILS

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.

Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.

Reporting the Dean of the School for Professional Development, the Director of Workforce Development will provide oversight, leadership, and strategic direction across the Medgar Evers College Workforce Development and Adult Continuing Education (ACE) Programs. The Director will supervise multiple and varied credit, non-credit, and certificate programs funded through the University, grants, contracts, or on a fee basis. Programs are concentrated in the areas of workforce/career development; professional development; adult education; remedial reading, writing and math; ESL; intellectual and developmental disabilities and community-based activities

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Director's duties include but are not limited to:

-Oversee all aspects of Workforce Development tuition programs and activities. Ensure the functional and fiscal success of these programs.

-Collaborate with Dean of School of Professional Community & Development to develop financial forecasting models to support strategic planning aligned with goals and initiatives.

-Oversee budget and personnel operations; program assessment, course scheduling, and development of workforce/career and community centered fee-based programs.

-Work closely with the Provost and Dean to monitor program performance and progress toward initiative and individual college outcome and targets. Direct the development of new courses and/or programs as needs are identified.

-Plan and implement marketing campaigns to include the development and distribution of recruitment brochures, flyers posters, and solicitation letters.

-Develop and lead training and other capacity building efforts to develop knowledge and skills around case management, core concepts, referral mechanisms and community-outreach and mobilization for local partners.

-Oversee the development of course schedules and class schedules for each semester; hiring of instructors and program and instructor evaluations. Ensure that program instructor payroll is completed in a timely manner.

-Conduct competitive analysis and environmental scanning to evaluate new Workforce trends and monitor existing programs relevance to current employment demands.

  • Supervise, and train, staff ensure mandatory staff professional education is completed

-Act as a department representative by collaborating with internal MEC departments, external workforce development entities, and industry representatives to address current and emerging workforce education needs within the College’s service area;

-Manage grant projects in assigned program areas including assisting in drafting grant applications to city, state, federal, corporate and private funding sources; hiring and supervising grant staff, managing the grant budget, and ensuring that deliverables are accomplished in accordance with grant source expectations and guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience.

  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of new programs of study and ensures the coordination and implementation of program components.

  • Plans, markets and implements College programs in Continuing Education, developing overall programs and overseeing development of content, budgets, and marketing strategies.

  • Develops funding proposals; solicits grant information and provides leadership and guidance in partnering with community and governmental agencies.

  • Provide fiscal oversight and evaluation; develops strategic and operating plans; reports progress and results to management.

  • Oversees a comprehensive marketing and public information program.

  • Manages staff of the Continuing Education office.

  • Represents Continuing Education within the College community and externally.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
