ASAP helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid eligible students, yearly textbook vouchers, and monthly MetroCards for all students. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid and working in close collaboration and guidance with the college’s Director of Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP), the Financial Aid Specialist for ASAP is responsible for providing individualized, high-quality, client-focused service to a diverse student population and their families. The individual will proactively coordinate and monitor all aspects of the financial aid process as it applies to ASAP students.
The Financial Aid Specialist's duties include but are not limited to:
Administer financial aid programs, and participate in the development and implementation of financial aid services, policies and procedures as they pertain to ASAP students.
Collect, review, correct, and verify financial aid information. Research and resolve related problems.
Reconcile financial aid and ASAP waiver issues (packaging, awarding, payments)
Monitor and troubleshoot ASAP student financial accounts through close collaboration with the TAP unit, Bursar’s Office, Registrar and ASAP.
Provide proactive guidance to students on the financial aid process, to ensure eligibility requirements are met and degree completion is obtained.
Advise current and potential ASAP students on the financial aid process and matters concerning the cost of attending and available resources (application, eligibility, programs, etc.
Provide analysis and reports on financial aid activities.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs, polices, and regulations.
Represent the Financial Aid Office and ASAP at college and University wide meetings.
Maintain joint team-collaboration in both the Financial Aid and ASAP Offices.
Participate in ASAP staff meetings and serve as financial aid expert for all ASAP related concerns.
Assist in staff training and development.
Assist with special projects as requested.
Must be available for evening and weekend coverage, as required.
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal and New York State financial aid programs and regulations.
Strong data analytic skills.
Ability to exercise professional judgment in applying problem-solving and organizational skills.
Diplomatic approach to managing and reconciling conflicting priorities.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
Experience with or interest in developing advanced skills in data management.
Prior work experience using PeopleSoft.

Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs
Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds
Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility
May review and reconcile student payroll processing
Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly
Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes
Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities
Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary range: $51,126 - $63,617 commensurate with experience
