As a vital member of the CUNY SPS development team, the Development Specialist will be responsible for day-to-day Development Office operations and administration of fundraising activities. The Development Specialist will report directly to the Executive Director of Development and in addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties will include but are not limited to::

  • Working closely with development team to develop fundraising goals;

  • Assisting with development and implementation of comprehensive annual campaign;

  • Managing the Raisers Edge database;

  • Working with alumni relations staff to develop creative appeals, events and programs to increase alumni giving;

  • Managing and maintaining all giving platforms;

  • Coordinating and reporting on appeals and solicitations, including gift acknowledgements;

  • Organizing donor, alumni, and prospect outreach campaigns;

  • Assisting with development project management;

  • Coordinating development events;

  • Coordinating social networking and online communications;

  • Creating proposals, letters and other written collateral as needed; arranging appointments; and, general follow up as needed;

  • Coordinating all development mailings.


Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

The preferred candidate will also exhibit:

  • Experience in a higher education development setting;

  • Competency in Raisers Edge; and, knowledge of building and evolving organizational aspects of database management;

  • Proficiency in using email, social media for fundraising campaigns

  • Strong development writing and editing skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;

  • Proven ability provide excellent and responsive customer service;

  • Solid organization skills, multi-tasking ability, and attention to detail;

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to contribute to problem-solving;

  • Attention to detail.


Contributes to organizing and administering College fundraising activities.

  • Manages research of potential funding sponsors

  • Tracks and analyzes giving trends; prepares financial and ad-hoc reports

  • Conducts data quality audits

  • Oversees preparation of fundraising communication materials

  • Writes grant proposals

  • Recommends, implements and evaluates fundraising strategies

  • May supervise office operations and/or department budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
