The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Building upon more than 40 years of the success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we offer a BS/MD degree and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree. CSOM is seeking a Human Resources Generalist who will report to the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance. The HR Generalist will administer the day-to-day human resources affairs of the School for faculty, staff and affiliate faculty. The Generalist will be responsible for employment, employee relations, HRIS, time and leave, and training.

In addition to the CUNY overview, duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage HR functions as they relate to recruitment, appointment, reappointment, promotions, tenure, etc.

  • Liaison with the Provost's Office, CUNY Central Office and the academic and administrative units of the CSOM and CCNY to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

  • Administer Human Capital Management (HCM) in CUNYfirst (PeopleSoft/Oracle System) activities including oversight of Position Management, TAM, and Workforce Administration.

  • Manage the HRIS system; perform data entry, reconcile audit reports, and work closely with Information Technology Services.

  • Supervise the CUNYFirst/HCM staff. Review operating procedures to ensure the accurate entry of data. Make suggestions for process improvements as needed.

  • Partner with Assistant Dean of Administration and Finance on multiple HR programs aimed at talent development, retention, culture enhancement, and general best practice solutions.

  • Advise and guide managerial and executive staff on personnel-related matters, and provide quality customer service to all that engage with the Administration and Finance Office.

  • Resolve employee relations issues and maintain strong personnel relationships.

  • Conduct training and orientation sessions on various HR related topics.

  • Create innovative communications such as manuals, newsletters and various employee communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Higher Education experience preferred

  • Proficiency using CUNYFirst (PeopleSoft) preferred

  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work in a high traffic environment

  • Highly driven, with an ability to work independently, prioritize workloads and efficiently complete tasks in a high transaction environment with multiple simultaneous projects

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

  • Oversees two or more human resources functions for an employee group, such as, but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, employee relations, appointment administration, compensation, human resource information systems (HRIS), training and development, benefits, and/or administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Ensures human resources functions, programs, and actions are in compliance with university rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and college policies and procedures.

  • Interprets and provides professional counsel and advice to employees and managers on HR programs and policies, CUNY rules, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. Researches and resolves multifaceted human resources issues.

  • Recommends new approaches, best practices, policies, and systems to improve office efficiency and services provided.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
