GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

In collaboration with eight of CUNY’s senior campuses, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) provides the most promising undergraduate students with an elite academic program of interdisciplinary seminars, personalized advisement, and experiential learning supported by dedicated funding for study abroad, internships, and research. Reporting to the IT Manager, and working in collaboration with members of the IT Department, the Systems Engineer/Administrator will provide hardware and software support primarily to staff, as well as to faculty and students. S/he will assist in maintenance, implementation, troubleshooting and support for servers, desktop applications, and mobile devices, as well as IP telephony systems and multimedia. This is a hands-on, highly technical position and not managerial.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, such as system capacity (storage, memory, and CPU);

  • Performs and oversees systems administration activities for Active Directory, Exchange, McAfee, Linux, Backup Infrastructure, LAMP servers;

  • Prepares and assists with software upgrades for a mixed environment of Mac, Windows, Linux, VMware and McAfee;

  • Develops and implements creative solutions to effectively automate application workflows, routine processes, and technical and procedural changes on an ongoing basis;

  • Ensures business continuity by analyzing system performance and logs; proactively identifies, investigates, and resolves application issues;

  • Assists in budget management, purchasing requisitions, and annual inventory;

  • Facilitates communication between helpdesk and staff regarding services provided including access and usage policies, etc.; and

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A preferred candidate should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Excellent communication, writing, and customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated experience on a multi-platform environment of macOS, Linux and Windows.

  • Experience as a Systems Administrator with demonstrated experience managing Active Directory Services, Exchange, McAfee Enterprise suite, LAMP and open-source solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience using command line for Mac, Linux and Windows.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with server operating systems such as Windows Server 2008 and 2012, Linux and macOS.

  • Experience configuring and managing VMware infrastructure.

  • Experience with DNS, DHCP servers in Windows server-client environment.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience on VLAN’s, IP Addressing, subnetting, VLSM and ARP, reverse and proxy ARP, TCP/IP stack, etc.

  • Experience in Cisco VoIP and switches.

  • Networking, routing and firewalls experience.

  • Knowledge of email filtering solutions.

  • Exceptionally well-organized and able to effectively analyze and resolve complex problems while rendering sound resolutions, and have the ability to articulate goals and manage multiple resources and priorities.

  • Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, customer-responsive, and team-oriented environment.

  • Proficient usage of command line on Windows, Mac and Linux.

  • Competency in creating scripts on Bash, PowerShell, etc.

  • Advanced experience with managing and administering Windows and Linux servers, and Mac and Windows clients: installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining.

  • Extensive experience managing McAfee ePO and tools for Windows and Mac: McAfee ENS, McAfee Native Encryption, etc.

  • In-depth understanding of and experience with managing/administering email messaging platforms such as Microsoft Exchange.

  • Proven knowledge of VMware virtualization technologies and SAN storage.

  • Strong experience with Cyber Security concepts, TLS/SSL, encryption methodologies, PKI, PGP, etc.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Active Directory server-client implementations.

  • Current certification in MCSA (Widows Server 2012); CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION

$82,813
