Established in 2013, the CUNY Service Corps has been mobilizing students to work on projects that improve the civic, economic, and environmental sustainability of New York City. Over the past five years, more than 4,000 CUNY Service Corps students have performed over one million hours of paid service in community-based organizations across New York City
Reporting to the Director for the Center for Career & Professional Development, the Academic Student Support Program Specialist will assist with implementing and promoting the launch of the University’s student service model and program fostering community engagement and responsible citizenship.
This is a two year grant-funded program.
This position will be responsible for, but are not limited to,the following:
Recruit and select a cohort of CUNY Service Corps students;
Assist with engaging, onboarding, training, and supporting selected students in order to start the program with a full cohort of approximately 100-150 students;
Conduct regularly scheduled individual or group advising/debriefing sessions to engage students in meaningful reflections on and discussions about their engagement experiences, personal development and community contributions;
Support the Service Corps cohort as they complete their year-long Service Corps placement;
Support enrolled students and alumni in attaining jobs after program completion;
Implement a CUNY Service Corps alumni engagement strategy;
Engage interested students in a variety of career exploration and career success activities focused on the non-profit sector;
Assist with the creation of an operations plan each year;
Submit programmatic data on a regular basis;
Manage college-based administrative processes;
Participate in program meetings, events and other activities, as needed;
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Advanced degree in education or a social science discipline strongly preferred.
Four years’ experience in service learning, community service, civic engagement, volunteerism, field work, and/or experiential education programs in higher education.
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills to work and interact effectively, collaboratively, and cooperate with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and external constituents in a large centralized public university system.
Detail oriented with strong analytical, evaluation, research, writing and editing skills.
Strong presentation, negotiation, conflict management, mediation, and group facilitation skills;
Computer proficiency using standard office software programs/applications.
Flexibility to work some evening hours and occasional weekend preferred.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides educational development activities supporting a targeted academic program.
Assists in developing and preparing program offerings, curricula, guidelines, and related communications
Promotes program and advises students and College stakeholders on services, policies, and procedures
Advises faculty, counselors, tutors, administrators and others on program goals, activities, and best practices
Provides student services such as workshops, seminars, and advising sessions
Coordinates efforts of faculty, staff, and other service providers to monitor and assess utilization, student progress, and program effectiveness
Performs related duties as assigned.
