FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Biological Sciences and Geology at Queensborough Community College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting Fall 2019. The successful candidate will teach courses in physical geology and develop capstone courses in mineralogy and petrology.
Duties include: teaching, research, and mentorship to undergraduate students. The successful candidate will participate in departmental and college activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development, and preparation of grants. Specifically, the successful candidate will play an essential role in the revamping of the physical geology program and may also collaborate with members of the Chemistry and Physics Department. The Assistant Professor will be required to demonstrate scholarly activities including research for tenure and promotion.
The Biological Sciences and Geology Department offers programs of study in Health Sciences, Medical Assistant, Pre-Professional Studies, Pre-Nursing Curriculum, Geology, and required biology courses in Massage Therapy. The department facilities include 15 state-of-the art laboratories with multi-media projection equipment, as well as a petrographic laboratory dedicated to rock preparation including petrographic thin section and access to a desktop scanning electron microscope with EDS. The department provides opportunities for growth, improvement in pedagogy, and research. Ph.D. degree in the Geological Sciences from a regionally accredited institution, with an emphasis in mineralogy, petrology, and related area(s) such as carbonate petrology, geochemistry of minerals and rocks, or equivalent.
Prior teaching experience in an academic setting, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Experience in mineralogy, petrology, course assessment, and curriculum development
Experience in teaching diverse student populations
Research interests in teaching/learning innovation
An innovative perspective and non-traditional approach to pedagogy
